SSODS Installation

Installation instructions.

Upgrading

Upgrading SSODS: Install the new version over the old one. If it fails or if problems occur after the installation uninstall SSODS using the ssods-uninst.pat patch and install SSODS again. Upgrading (re-installing) and uninstalling SSODS does not touch an installed SqueezeCenter tar ball (i.e. you will not loose any settings doing so).

Upgrading the DS firmware: Don’t. If you need to upgrade make sure SSODS still works with it (see also hardware and support). You read and understood the warnings, didn’t you? In the best case, SSODS/SC will run after the firmware upgrade as before. Anyway, don’t upgrade firmwares. It’s the path to the Dark Side.

Installation

Read the warnings.

Download the appropriate version and install the contained .pat file using the firmware upgrade function in the Diskstation Manager (DSM, i.e. the web interface).

The installer (patch) should terminate with an appropriate message (note), which either indicates an error (such as a missing public network share) or, if everything went smooth, the prompt to open the SSODS web interface at http://xxxxxx:9099 (where xxxxxx is the IP address or host name of the DS).

Follow the instructions in the web interface (step one: click Install).

Notes:

Uninstalling

To uninstall SSODS, use the patch ssods-3.x-uninst.pat, i.e. install it using the firmware upgrade function of the DS.

Warning: this patch will not ask for any confirmation nor will there be any means to recover anything. It should completely remove any remains of any version of SSODS (also of broken installations). The patch will terminate with an appropriate note. Since SSODS 3.0beta5 the patch no longer removes the SC tar ball installation (which allows for a re-installation of SSODS without loosing SC and its settings, database etc.). The SqueezeCenter folder (where the tar ball is installed) has to be removed using the SSODS admin interface prior to using the uninstallation patch. Alternatively, you can manually remova it via FTP, Samba (Windows Explorer) or telnet (provided that you know how to do that).
